General Information

Location

The Vermont Academy of Floral Design is a private professional floral design school located in the heart of Vermont. It is just minutes from the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory, the world famous von Trapp Family Lodge, the major ski areas of Mt. Mansfield at Stowe, Bolton Valley at Bolton and Sugarbush in Waitsfield, many antique shops and tourist attractions.

The Academy’s unique location in a small community, with its cutting gardens and pond provides students with a natural environment for the study of floral design. There are over three hundred varieties of plant materials in our gardens and more being added each year.

Class Hours

Class hours will start at 9:00 am and end at 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Registration on the first day of class will start a 8:30 am to 9:00 am.

Rooms

Each student will be responsible for his or her own lodging. There are many locations for lodging in the Waterbury - Stowe area. Check the Waterbury Tourism Council web site for lodging options - www.waterbury.org.  There are other accommodations in the area along with camping and RV hookups. Lodging facilities are not available within walking distance of the academy so individual transportation will be required.  If you have questions regarding lodging please contact the academy.

Meals

Students will be responsible for their own meals. Because of our location in a small community, students may bring a bag lunch. There is a kitchen and microwave at the Academy which students may use. For breakfast and evening meals there are many restaurants in the Waterbury area and near by towns.

Tools

Each student will need a design knife or shears for cutting flowers (knives may be purchased at the Academy), shears for cutting ribbon, wire cutters, pruners for woody materials, a calculator and note pad. All fresh materials and supplies will be provided.

Cameras

Students are strongly encouraged to record their work and progress. Cameras may be used any time during the class. However, tape recorders, video recorders or phone video recordings are strictly prohibited in class.

Certificate and Refund Policy

The Vermont Academy of Floral Design will refund the enrollment deposit provided that the academy director is notified at least ten (10) days prior to the first day of class. After that date all enrollment deposits are non-refundable. If a student enters training and discontinues prior to completing that program, the academy may retain the full program tuition. Any portion of a class attendance shall be considered as full tuition.  Incomplete attendance and emergency leave of absence will be considered on an individual basis. Students may have to return at another scheduled class date to make up incomplete attendance and may include additional tuition cost. Certificates will be awarded upon completion of the enrolled program with all tuition fees paid in full.
